January 2015 - Garden Update!

Wow!

It sure seems early for some of the plants to be popping out and leafing out. It feels early even for the Snowdrops and Crocus to be blooming.

Other than some unusual cold and nasty winds in November 2014, our winter has been pretty decent so far.

Last weekend gave us temperatures in the 60's with mostly sunny skies. Sunday was a little on the foggy side in the morning, but I'll take it.

I had a great weekend gardening. I threw open the windows of the house, turned off the heat and just let all that fresh air come in. Now that's good for the soul. Gotta air out the funk now and then.

I was able to get some more of the flower beds cleaned up, the grass edged and weeds pulled. I get most of the front done, which gave me a nice sense of accomplishment. I was purposely taking it easy and trying to not over do it physically.

There is still all the side and back beds, but that can all wait a week or two.

Unlike Spring, I'm not in a rush...

  1. I cleaned out most of the front this weekend too. The weather was so fabulous. It really does feel like things are popping up early.

  2. The crocuses coming up through the long grass are a tonic.

    1. They are tonic until the "doomsday" side of me thinks more winter is still on the way.

  3. My timing really sucks - I was inside cleaning the basement. Booh... Love your crocuses - I only have foliage yet.

    1. That is the good thing about not having a basement or a garage!

  4. New house with new garden beds waiting to be planted...having to force myself not to turn in at the nurseries and start planting! :)

    1. I have been on a self imposed hiatus from visiting the nurseries. Although they are calling my name more and more...

  5. It's nice to see that your garden is blooming quite early this year, Matthew. Spring seems to be in a rush this year. In any case, I'm more than sure that any flowerbed that grows in your garden will be cared for well by you. Here's to a blooming 2015! Cheers! :)
